HUBERT DE GIVENCHY EXHIBITION

A delightful and temporary exhibition is taking place in Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid at the moment: HUBERT DE GIVENCHY Exhibition! Lempi team went on a guided tour and was lucky enough to learn more about Monsieur de Givenchy´s designs and inspiration. The Spanish Cristobal Balenciaga, known as the “architect of fashion” was his mentor, great influence and loyal friend (Givenchy is actually the president of the Balenciaga Museum in Getaria, Spain). From Balenciaga, Givenchy took the shapes and lines he reinterpreted in his designs, so we could see a great Spanish touch in some of the fabrics and dresses displayed at the exhibition. He was also inspired by plastic arts, such as paintings, to create new color combinations applied in fashion design during his age.

A fabulous show that starts with the foundation of Maison Givenchy in Paris in 1952 and finishes with the designer’s professional retirement in 1996. Givenchy has been himself the art director to this exhibition, so everything is displayed with an amazing taste and delicacy. The show is a fabulous tribute to a genius and his work, we may say. Every detail has been taken care of in the timeless pieces that are shown and, although there are around 95 pieces and some legendary ensembles that belonged to Jackeline Kennedy or Audrey Hepburn, the exhibition seemed very short to us since we would have spent the entire day (or weeks) enjoying every inch from his designs. You shouldn´t miss it if you are in Madrid sometime this Autumn, it will be running until January 18th. You can read more about the creation about Maison Givenchy here.

GIVENCHY DESIGN
